SOLD-OUT CROWD
Monday, June 21, 2010 This video shows the work-flow of one of my final thesis renderings. Its not exactly a tutorial, but still does a decent job of showing the steps I used to create the crowded atmosphere.

A few things to note about the video is that it is a remake of the final rendering, and not the actual rendering I used in my final thesis presentation. That will explain the choppy and pretty brutal Photoshopping around the people. In the real rendering, I took more time clipping the images. However, I needed to keep the video short (under 10 minutes) which meant really speeding things up. Also in the final rendering, I place more people around the perimeters, added digital score boards, and other minor additions not shown in the video.
For the base image, I rendered the Sketchup scene in Kerkythea which probably took no more than 20 minutes. I then used crowds from 7 different arena images to obtain the proper perspectives.

You'll always have to decide how accurate or real you want it. That's one main thing i learned from you-> not being too accurate all the time because nobody would ever recognise that.. Some filters added do some tricks.
I like the motion blur at the end, the few cheering people in front- just duplicated the layer, added blur and erased roughly the part, which are not moving. Tricky ;)
What sort of resolution do you shoot for in your stills? I always debate how big I should render... like 1080p or should I render a still at a good printable resolution, say over 3k? In this case you have pic's of crowds, so I'm assuming they are low res, so the overall image isn't too high of resolution. but I was curious.
